Dolphins overcome Thunder

PHILIPPINE Christian University leaned on Fidel Castro’s difficult tree-point shot with 1.3 seconds left to bring down Rizal Technological University, 71-70,  in the 16th NAASCU men’s basketball tournament at the RTU gym .

Castro’s heroics capped  a see-saw battle that saw the leads change hands in the closing minutes with the Taft-based  Dolphins of  the father and son tandem of coach Ato and Elvis Tolentino emerging victorious in the end.

Jon Von Tambeling   finished with 30 points for PCU, which  raised its record to six wins and three losses.
   
Kerr Bangeles  topscored for the Blue Thunder with 15 points,  followed by Cyrus Tabi  with 13 and Paulo Tilos with  10.
   
RTU  dropped to 6-4   
   
In other games,Our Lady of  Fatima  defeated De Ocampo Memorial College 100-82, and New Era University downed   EARIST, 81-74.
   
Handled  by coach Ralph  Emerson Rivera, the Phoenix got double-digit scores from  Jerome Juanico (18), Joseph Marquez (14), Ervin Bargola (13), Chris Essomba (12) and  Jess Pedrosa (12).
   
Jonard Clarito  paced De Ocampo with 19  points.
   
The Hunters  of coach Adonis Tierra improved to 2-7, thanks to Nemesis Dela Cruz, Richard Velchez  Aj Ramos  and  Clyde Reyes.
