VICE President Leni Robredo won’t have the job of caretaker in the absence of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Presidential communications office secretary Martin Andanar said Duterte has tapped his Little President, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea who is the former’s childhood friend, to be the nation’s caretaker starting today when he leaves for Vientiane, Laos where he will attend the ASEAN Summit from Sept. 6 to 8 and then proceed to Jakarta, Indonesia for a state visit from Sept. 8 to 9.
Andanar said that the Indonesia trip had not been called of as of yesterday.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said that while in Laos, Duterte will formally accept the chairmanship of the ASEAN for 2017.
No statement was made by the Palace as to the role Robredo, who is the next top leader of the land will play, while the President is on his official trip abroad.
Duterte and Medialdea go a long way back. According to Duterte, his father and Medialdea’s father, former Associate Justice Leo D. Medialdea, worked together during the elder Duterte’s stint as provincial governor of Davao.
