UNLESS San Sebastian has other plans, Far Eastern University is bracing for a mouth-watering semifinals meeting with Ateneo in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference.
The Lady Tamaraws took the No. 1 seed in the playoffs and dragged the Lady Eagles to a playoff with the Lady Stags for the last Final Four berth with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 victory at the end of the quarterfinals Wednesday night.
“Wala kaming pinipiling kalaban, basta paghahandaan na lang namin,” said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos.
Ateneo and San Sebastian, both sporting 2-3 carryover records in the quarters, clash in a no-tomorrow duel on Saturday at the Philsports Arena.
With the Lady Eagles tipped to win over the Lady Stags, the Lady Tamaraws are now focusing at the task at hand, making a return stint to the Finals after a one-year absence.
FEU is savoring its first win ever over Ateneo in any league since UAAP Season 75, as the Morayta-based spikers are a determined bunch to beat their counterparts from Katipunan.
“Sa mahabang panahon, nanalo na rin. Yun ang pinag-usapan noong Monday pa na kailangan, kung gusto natin silang talunin, kailangang simulan ngayon (Wednesday). Sobrang thankful kami,” said Delos Santos, a two-time V-League champion.
“Actually, hindi lang physical ang ginagawa naming pagpapakundisyon, pati yung mind nila na mag-perform kami ng mabuti. Kailangan, sa pagpasok ng semifinals, ipakita natin kung anong meron ang team natin,” he added.
The Lady Tamaraws’ Big 3 of Remy Palma, Toni Rose Basas and Bernadeth Pons teamed up for 33 points, while Jerrili Malabanan scored four of her six points from blocks to frustrate the Lady Eagles defense.
Parading an-UAAP bound crew, the Lady Tamaraws hope to regain the crown it won in 2014, with the help of then guest player Rachel Daquis.
