DAGUPAN CITY -- The local PNP has filed cases of murder and frustrated murder against a suspected hitman who missed his target and instead killed five-year-old Danica Mae Garcia last August 23.
In his report to the acting PNP provincial director Friday afternoon, Supt. Neil Miro, Dagupan City Police Station officer-in-charge, said the cases were filed against one Bryan Macaayao, of legal age, a resident of Bonuan Binloc, this city.
Miro stated that Macaayao was involved in a shooting incident at Bonuan Gueset, this city, on August 6, 2013.
“He is is also a known drug peddler with several associates of illegal drugs operating within Dagupan City and nearby municipalities,” he added.
Allegedly, a witness saw the face of the gunman when he removed his bonnet/facemask before he fled from the crime scene.
Last August 23, at about 12:45 p.m., two unidentified motorcycle-riding men arrived at Sitio Camanggan, Barangay Mayombo, this city. The gunman fired a shot, hitting the stomach of their target (who was then eating lunch with relatives), the girl’s 53-year-old grandfather Maximo Garcia. The victim ran for safety, but unfortunately, the next shot hit instead his granddaughter who was taking a bath. She died at the hospital.
A SOCO team which processed the crime scene recovered a fired cartridge of caliber .45 and two deformed slugs.
Accordingly, two days before the incident, Maximo presented/surrendered to the police as he was allegedly in the illegal drug watchlist at the barangay.
Mayor Belen Fernandez condemned the killing of the girl, as well as the extra-judicial killings.
She said the city remains to be safe, but she called on parents to keep their children inside the house, especially in the evening. The city ordinance on curfew for minors is being implemented in the city.
