SENATOR Panfilo Lacson yesterday urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) to "earn the trust" of relatives of the victims of alleged extrajudicial killings especially those involving policemen amid the significant gains in the government's war against illegal drugs.

He said that the two witnesses -- Harra Kazuo and Mary Rose Aquino -- who spoke at the recent Senate hearings looking into the killings showed that the victims’ kin had sought help from agencies other than the PNP such as the Commission on Human Rights .

“If we take the claims of the witness hook, line and sinker, many people are afraid to report killings to the police out of lack of trust. The PNP leadership will have to bridge that gap,” said Lacson in a radio interview.
