THE Marikina police marched on the streets of Bgy. Malanday yesterday to entice drug users and pushers to turn themselves in to the authorities.
Together with residents and non-government organizations, policemen asked pushers and users to surrender.
Superintendent Virgilio Viloria, Marikina police OIC, said around 2,000 cops joined the parade.
The event was part of the police strategy under “Brigada Tokhang” launched by Eastern Police District (EPD) director Senior Supt. Romulo Sapitula.
Brigada Tokhang is the brainchild of Sapitula to give opportunity for police and other sectors to work together with volunteers to ensure and sustain the full implementation of the anti-illegal drug program of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Starting today, the parade will be conducted every Sunday in all barangays in Marikina City to convince more drug personalities to surrender.
“Our main objective is to encourage suspected users and pushers to stop their illegal activities and help the police in the campaign against illegal drugs through house to house visits,” Viloria said.
The event will also let the community realize the ability of the illegal drugs to destroy lives and become the source of their misery.
“The event aimed to prevent and reduce drug-related problems in the city and create awareness against drugs through education and outreach programs,” Viloria added.
