AGENTS of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office on Thursday simultaneously raided different drug targets in the province and arrested 56 suspects and seized a cache of weapons and drugs as well as suspected stolen motorcycles, local police director Senior Superintendent Romeo Caramat Jr. said yesterday.
The arrests were part of the ‘One-Time, Big-Time’ anti-crime operations launched by the Bulacan police which also led to the killing of four armed suspected drug dealers in Norzagaray town, Caramat told Police Regional Office 3 director Chief Supt. Rudy Lacadin.
Caramat said four other suspects were arrested during the operation in Barangay Bigte in Norzagaray town around 10:15 p.m. Thursday.
He identified the slain suspects as Michael Sumbillo, a known drug target in Bulacan; Reyan Quirante, one alias ‘Allan’ and one alias ‘Epoy.’ Arrested were Arrian Caballes, 20; Mary Rose Nabo,19; Rofel Sia, 20; and Josephine Venegas, 41.
The official said that members of the Norzagaray Municipal Police Station headed by Supt. Rizalino Andaya raided the house-cum-drug den of Sumbillo but were met with gunfire from the suspects, prompting them to retaliate.
All four suspects were killed on the spot while the four others were arrested inside the house.
Recovered inside the house of Sumbillo were a home-made caliber .38 revolver, an improvised 12-gauge shotgun, a cal .38 Smith & Wesson revolver with three live ammunition and three spent cartridges in its cylinder, an improvised gun with a 9mm ammunition, assorted live ammunition, a smoke grenade, four plastic sachets containing around 20 grams of suspected shabu worth P100,000, two plastic packets with dried marijuana leaves and various drug paraphernalia.
Caramat said his men also impounded two motorcycles belonging to the suspects.
He said that charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and attempted homicide will be filed against the arrested suspects.
Shortly before midnight last Wednesday, a gunbattle between responding policemen and three armed robbery suspects in San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan left one of the gunmen dead, said Lacadin.
The three suspects fired shots at members of the San Jose del Monte City Police Station who were about to accost them in Barangay Muzon 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, triggering the firefight, the Central Luzon police director said.
Caramat said his men fired back, killing one of the still unidentified suspects.
Recovered from the slain suspect’s possession were an improvised 12-gauge shotgun and several live ammunition. Caramat said his men were responding to a reported robbery incident in the area when they encountered the suspects.
The two other suspects managed to escape on foot and are still being hunted as of press time, he said.
Caramat said a total of 25 search warrants were served and five buy-bust operations were conducted by his men in different parts of the province in line with their continuing anti-narcotics campaign in Bulacan.
The official said the operations led to the seizure of 137 plastic sachets, four blocks of dried marijuana leaves, three blue tablets suspected to be ‘Ecstasy,’12 assorted firearms, a smoke grenade, 31 live ammunition, a sizeable amount of drug paraphernalia and 17 undocumented motorcycles, some of them believed to be stolen.
