KYLIE Padilla says she has not broken up with Aljur Abrenica. “Wala naman pong nabago sa amin kasi friends lang talaga kami at friends pa rin kami hanggang ngayon kahit we haven’t seen each other for quite sometime,” she insists.
But is it true she cried when Aljur failed to show up at her recent 19th birthday party? “I cried sa tuwa ko sa mga bumati sa ’kin, not because of him. He notified me na earlier that he can’t make up kasi busy siya with work and I understand. Hindi ko priority ang lovelife kasi I’m focused on my work. Gusto ko kasi manalo muna ng best actress award bago mag-lovelife.”
What can she say about elder sister Queenie’s decision to quit showbiz? “It’s her decision and I respect that.”
Some folks say she quit because Kylie is now much ahead of her in showbiz. “Hindi naman. She just wants to devote more time to our faith.”
After “Blusang Itim,” GMA7 gives her another lead role in “The Good Daughter.” Is she really a good daughter? “I think so. I try to be. My dad calls me good daughter now. I followed his advice na career muna bago boyfriend-boyfriend. Alam naman natin, naging bad boy siya before, nakulong siya, so ayaw niyang yung pinagdaanan niya, maranasan namin. Kaya ang lagi ko lang kasama ngayon, the script of ‘Good Daughter’. I read it before going to bed, when I wake up, sa car, para pagdating ko sa set, alam ko na lahat ng lines ko at mga gagawin ko.”
In the show, she plays the daughter of Raymond Bagatsing and Glydel Mercado. As she celebrates her 18th birthday, she finds out her dad has a mistress, Alicia Meyer, and they have a daughter, Nicole Sanoy. Alicia has two kids with her first husband, Rocco Nacino and LJ Reyes. Alicia kills Glydel and Raymond marries her. She then starts maltreating Kylie.
In real life, she does have a stepmom, Mariel Rodriguez. Does Mariel oppress her too? “No, napakabait niya. Itong pink gown na suot ko sa presscon, sa kanya ito. She gave it to me. Ganun siya kabait.”
How is it working with Rocco Nacino as her leading man? “Okay siya, naging comfortable kami agad sa isa’t isa. He’s very professional and also takes his craft seriously kaya magkasundo kami.”
TALENT MANAGER VS COLUMNIST
SHIRLEY Kuan as a talent manager has always stayed on the sidelines. This time, though, as manager of Claudine Barretto, she’s on the warpath against columnist Dolly Anne Carvajal.
“A lie that goes uncorrected soon becomes the truth,” she tells some writers over dinner at Nitz Miralles’ birthday party. “I’m not here to pick a fight. I’m not even going to ask Dolly Anne to retract her story. I just want to tell the truth and let the public be the judge. On July 29, she wrote in her Inquirer column that Carmina Villaroel walked out of a commercial shoot after getting irked with Claudine’s endless demands like getting a bigger dressing room, getting a white long-sleeved shirt, taking a nap and delivering the longer lines in the commercial. Carmina denied on TV such a thing happened. The last time she did a commercial with Claudine was for Lactum three years ago, and nothing bad happened between them. The agency’s account supervisor himself, Raffy Parcon, wrote Dolly Anne to refute what she reported, saying the commercial shoot then, which included Jodi Sta. Maria, went on smoothly and there was no disagreement at all as its stars were all cooperative. Dolly Anne answered and said it’s a
clear case of damage control, so it’s clear that she knows what she wrote is damaging to our clients. She even added that Lactum can milk the issue for all it’s worth since she’s lactose intolerant. Well, she’s lactose intolerant because milk doesn’t mix well with alcohol. I’m sure there’s malice in what she wrote because why write about a shoot that happened three years ago and make it appear that it just happened recently? It’s not even a blind item.
She wove stories that didn’t happen when it’s so easy to check with Zoren Legaspi, her co-host in their TV5 show. She always calls Carmina, bakit that time, di niya tinanong man lang? I want to prove here na just because you’re writing for a broadsheet, kailangang paniwalaan ka na ng tao. Ilang beses na niyang sinulat, pati sa Facebook, that she stands by her story. Bawal pala siyang ikorek kahit nakuryente siya. Siya, may regular platform, eh kami, wala, so I’m now explaining our side of the story. I’m left with no recourse because it’s very negative for Claudine, who’s now in Europe travelling with her husband, Raymart Santiago, at walang kamalay-malay sa mga nangyayari rito. If she’d read the comments of Inquirer readers to her, Dolly Anne would see na people think she’s the one milking the issue and not the ad agency or us, gaya raw ng di niya matapos-tapos na pagbanggit sa mga naging syota niya like William Martinez, Joey Marquez, Robin Padilla. She’s even told to stop name-dropping her mom in self defense because respect and credibility are not hereditary.”
Dolly Anne is welcome to air her side here.
MORE EXTREME CHALLENGES ON PBB
IT turns out the supposed foreign housemates who entered PBB Unlimited house last Sunday are twin brothers Anthony and David Semerad, members of the San Beda basketball team. They’re part of this week’s ‘Double Trouble’ twist aimed to give the housemates more extreme challenges. The Semerad twins have a Pinay mom and a Czech dad. They pretend to be swap housemates from Big Brother Czech Republic and go up against the Teams Wayuk and High Voltage in the Kontra Battle.
Paco and Tin were also named as the latest nominees this week, but this time, both are not allowed to tell this to their fellow housemates. Tin was nominated for losing in the challenge that resulted from her, Kevin, and Pamu’s failure in “The Big Road Trip” task last week. Paco, on the other hand, was automatically nominated for discussing with Seiichi and Kevin his possible nomination, which is against the PBB house rules. Don’t miss more exciting developments in “Pinoy Big Brother UnliDay” with Bianca Gonzalez weekdays after “Angelito: Batang Ama” and in “Pinoy Big Brother UnliNight” with Toni Gonzaga weeknights after “Walang Hanggan”.
BEA: I HAVE NO RIGHT TO MEDDLE IN JAKE'S LIFE
BEA Binene is giggling with glee because her new show “Alice Bungisngis and Her Magic Walis” is rating very high since it started airing last Monday. “Sana magtuloy-tuloy,” she says. “I’m just thankful puro magagaling ang kasama ko, from Marita Zobel as my Lola, Ana Roces and Janno Gibbs as my parents, Jean Garcia as the witch who puts a curse on me, and my leading men, Jake Vargas and Derrick Monasterio.”
But is it true that she’s jealous because of rumors that Jake’s real squeeze is Lexi Fernandez and not her? “Not at all. Love team kami ni Jake, but I have no right na pakialaman ang personal niyang buhay. I’m just glad the viewers continue to support our show and love team.”
JAMES SNUBS PBA-AKTV EVENT
THE PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) and AKTV on IBC 13 launched their new season, the PBA Season 37 Commissioner’s Cup that starts today, February 10, at the Big Dome. They invited top PBA cagers to attend but their most familiar player, James Yap, didn’t show up. “Natakot sigurong matanong tungkol sa annulment nila ni Kris Aquino,” said one writer. Those who showed up were Renren Ritualo of Air 21, Mac Cardona of Meralco, Gary David of Powerade, and Mark Caguioa of Ginebra, who all promise the new conference will be better and fiercer.
Admit it or not, the popularity of the PBA has waned compared to the times of Jaworski and Arnaiz or the likes of Patrimonio and Codiñera when they were treated like superstars and had legions of fans. This is why they’re intensifying their “Kampihan Na” campaign for the PBA 37 Commissioner’s Cup. Basketball fans are asked to choose sides and be more vocal about the teams and players they support. “Kampihan Na” was their battlecry when the new year started and it proved to be successful as the league earned record-breaking tickets sales at the Big Dome, earning P39 million in gate sales, a 3% increase from the previous year and exceeding their P36M target. With AKTV on IBC-13 as the PBA’s carrier and marketing partner, the country’s premiere basketball league is expected to gain more fans and TV viewers. The Game 7 between Petron and Talk n Text on January 18 got 1.2 million TV viewers.
Renren is Florendo Ritualo Jr. in real life. His dad is also a former PBA player. Born on June 14, 1979, he was named 2002 Rookie of the Year. Mark Cardona was born on Nov. 3, 1980 and first played with De La Salle. Called Capt. Hook, he was the best player of the 2006-07 conference.
Gary David was born on July 13, 1978 and started with Lyceum. He’s 2003’s MVP, married to Jenny David and has two daughters. Mark Caguioa was born on Nov. 19, 1979, a balikbayan from Glendale, USA. Known for his ever-ever changing hairstyles, he was 2001 Rookie of the Year and was once linked to Juliana Palermo.
James Yap of BMeg was born on Feb. 15, 1982 in Escalante, Negros Occ. He was MVP in 2005 and from 2009 to 2012. Best known as Kris Aquino’s ex-hubby. Another popular cager, Arwind Santos of Petron, was also a no show.
