SOME folks say Andi Eigenmann is so lucky if it’s true that her new BF is the son of ex-Pres. Erap and Laarni Enriquez, Jake Ejercito. “Mas guwapo naman si Jake kay Albie Casino,” says one writer. “At mayaman pa family nila ni Erap.”
But Andi denies they’re now officially on. She says they’re dating but Jake is studying abroad and they only get to do that whenever he’s home on vacation from school, like during the past Christmas holidays. “I like him as he’s not judgmental,” she adds. “Hindi porke may anak na ko, ayaw na niya.”
Her daughter Gabrielle, nicknamed Ellie, is now two months old and she says she’s ready to make a showbiz comeback as her fans who remain loyal to her keep on asking as to when she’ll be acting again. ABS-CBN is said to be preparing a vehicle for her return, a TV remake of “Problem Child,” the launching flick of her own aunt, Cherie Gil (sister of Andi’s dad, Mark Gil), made by Director Elwood Perez in 1978 for Regal Films. Meantime, she wants to thank her mom Jaclyn Jose for supporting her all the way.
“My baby now sleeps with my mom in her room at siyang nag-aalaga rito kasi caesarean ako so magpagaling daw muna ako nang husto bago ko kunin uli ang baby ko to sleep with me in my own room,” she says. “I also want to thank ABS-CBN dahil ready silang tanggapin uli ako at suportahan after I gave birth.”
GABBY FINALLY BECOMES 'NICE'
GABBY Eigenmann started in showbiz when he was 18, singing and dancing on GMA shows like “SOP.” He then got typecast playing villain roles, like in “Munting Heredera” where his role as the evil Desmond won him the Golden Screen best supporting actor award. Now, 15 years later at 33, he finally gets to play a lead role in “Broken Vow.”
“I’m so happy GMA7 entrusted me with this premium project to showcase my acting skills,” he says. “It’s a big challenge for me kasi it’s a 360 degree turn from my past roles. In ‘Munting Heredera’, sobrang sama ni Desmond. Dito sa ‘Broken Vow’, mabait naman ako. Nag-overlap ang taping ng two shows so araw-araw nagte-taping ako and I have to shed off my Desmond character each time I become Roberto, the councilor who’s engaged to marry Bianca King in ‘Broken Vow’. Ibang approach naman ang ginagawa ko. I had to lose weight before we started taping. Tamang-tama, as Desmond, nasunog na buong katawan ko so nakabenda ako, like a mummy. So many viewers want to see me die in the show but sorry to say na kahit sunog na ako, patuloy pa rin akong gagawa ng kasamaan in the remaining episodes of the show that will end this Friday.”
In “Broken Vow,” he and Bianca are about to be married. But before their wedding, Bianca is kidnapped and raped. When Gabby learns her rapist got her pregnant, he backs out as they are facing the altar. In real life, would he do the same thing? “It’s not easy to answer that. But if you truly love the woman and feel she’s your soulmate, then ipaglalaban mo. Lalo na ako, kung magmahal ako, sobra-sobra.”
JOEY READY TO FACE KRIS
JOEY Marquez started with ABS-CBN doing “Palibhasa Lalake,” then he moved to GMA7 to do sitcoms, soaps and the showbiz talk show “The S Files.” Now, he’s back with ABS where it’s said he’ll revive “Palibhasa Lalake” with pals Richard Gomez and John Estrada. He’ll also host the showbiz talk show, “Showbiz Insider Report,” with former Kapuso colleagues Janice de Belen (who left “S Files” then on the pretext she doesn’t want to be in a show sowing intrigues and chismis about other stars) and Carmina Villarroel.
Sooner or later, we’re sure Joey will cross paths with ex-live in partner Kris Aquino, who announced on TV after they broke up about ten years ago that he gave her STD (sexually transmitted disease) and even aimed a gun at her. Would he now be willing to interview or be interviewed by Kris?
“Okay lang. Hindi naman akong magdidikta kung sino ang magiging guests in our show,” he says. “Trabaho 'yun, eh, and I’m not doing it naman for my own interest, so personal emotions should be set aside. I’m willing to interview anyone, regardless of who it is. I just hope ready rin siya to be interviewed by me. Kung hindi, I will understand it. Hindi ko naman ipipilit ang sarili ko.”
VANESS AFRAID TO TAKE LEAD ROLES
VANESS Del Moral belongs to the same StarStruck 3 batch where Jackie Rice won and Iwa Moto was the runnerup. Although she hasn’t done lead roles, she’s just thankful that GMA7 continues to give her shows, one after the other. “I do supporting roles, kung minsan mabait like in ‘Dwarfina,’ ‘Gumapang Ka sa Lusak,’ and ‘Futbolilits,’ kung minsan salbahe. They say mas effective ako when I’m the kontrabida, like in ‘Basahang Ginto,’ ‘Magic Palayok’ and now in ‘Kokak’ na I’m so bad and mean to Sarah Lahbati at gagawin ko ang lahat just to snatch TJ Trinidad away from her,” she says.
What can she say about Iwa moving to TV5? “I think gusto lang niya magtrabaho, kaya lang may contract pa siya sa GMA so hindi niya basta magagawa 'yun.”
But it’s Iwa’s fault that her career is in the doldrums since she goes crazy when she’s in love. She was doing ‘Andres de Saya’ then when she had a big fight with her ex-BF right inside GMA. “Eh, ganun talaga, may mga nagagawa tayo dahil sa pag-ibig.”
It’s common knowledge she’s going steady now with Biboy Ramirez. Has something like that happened to her? “Ay, hindi. Ayoko ng ganun. Tahimik ang lovelife namin. Two years and four months na kami. We’ve travelled together to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. But now, wala siya as he’s entertaining his lolo and lola from Canada.”
In “Kokak,” her character as Elizabeth goes abroad. “Tumakas ako dahil wanted ako sa mga krimeng ginawa ko at ayoko makulong, pero pagbalik ko ng bansa, ganun pa rin, luka-luka, psychotic, maghahasik pa rin ng lagim sa buhay ni Sarah Lahbati as Kara.”
Wouldn’t she like to be launched in a lead role? “Ayoko, takot ako, baka hindi ko kaya. Paano kung walang manood? Happy na ako magkontrabida. Also, nagsosyo kami ni Biboy to produce an indie film, a horror movie called ‘Hantu’ which means ghost in Indonesia. We used mostly theater actors, directed by Joey Paras, with me as assistant director. Sana, mai-release namin sa theatres.”
THE DARKEST HOUR: STUPID ALIENS
WE’VE been getting too many apocalyptic alien invasion flicks lately, from the Transformers franchise to “Skyline,” “Cloverleaf,” “Super 8,” etc. Now comes “The Darkest Hour.” Two American software experts, Max and Sean (Emile Hirsch and Max Minghella) go to Moscow to talk to investors about a new social media website. Things didn’t do well for them and they go to a bar to drink where they meet two tourist girls going to Nepal, Natalie (Olivia Thirlby) and Anne (Rachael Taylor). Then aliens came looking like bright lights in the sky and start pulverizing everyone in a jiffy, just like what the aliens in “War of the Worlds” do.
The four lead characters manage to escape, along with a shady Swedish guy, Skyler (Joel Kinnaman), who has earlier stolen the idea of Max and Sean. The next hour shows them trying to survive the alien invasion. First, they hide in a basement for several days and when they come out later, they see the entire city devastated. All electrical power sources are being consumed by the aliens who are invisible to the naked eye but can be detected by electrical charges.
They meet other survivors, including a brave teener who hunts for food (Veronika Vernadskaya), an engineer who invents a gun to kill the extraterrestrials (Dato Bakhtadze), and the horse-riding leader of rebel survivors (Gosha Kutsenko). Their goal is to get to the river where a submarine is waiting for them to take them to safety.
What’s nice about the movie is how they shot it on location in Moscow showing a deserted Red Square (reminiscent of what happened to New York in “I Am Legend” and London in “28 Days”) and some familiar tourist places now destroyed by the aliens. The problem is that the characters are not interesting and some are just plain dumb you’d even wish the aliens get rid of them right away. In the final sequence in the river, a girl falls into the water and, instead of seeking her companions who are nearby, she manages to go to a parking area for buses that is so far away and even gets to hide in one of the buses waiting to be rescued by Sean.
How she got there when there are so many aliens around is beyond comprehension. Later, she even gets a text message from abroad. How she got it is another incredible mystery. Even the aliens are stupid and cannot detect people just hiding under cars. In short, this is just such a horrible, terrible movie that you’d wish that when aliens do ever invade our planet, they will make those who do stupid movies like this their first victims.
