Imee Marcos produces hiphop fairytale movie

ILOCOS Norte Governor Imee Marcos marks her comeback in film producing with yet another promising project, “Pinta* Kasi,” a film that lives up to the level of high quality films Marcos have produced through the years, such as the timeless classic “Himala.”

Living up to the modern times, “Pinta*Kasi” has adopted the newest approaches in filmmaking, with its fresh concept and its daredevil attempt to go multiplatform – a clear testament to Gov. Imee's lifelong passion to help raise the bar higher in the quality of Philippine cinema.

Pinta*Kasi’s genre falls under what they would like to call as “hip-hop fairytale movie” as the modern dance plays a central role in the film. The film even got the services of world renowned Filipino hip-hop dance group Philippine All Stars to showcase their skill, with hip-hop being a celebrated factor in the movie.

The film also holds the pride of becoming the first Filipino copyrighted material to go multiplatform as the film appears in its different facets – from graphic novels and comics, music videos and CDs of its all-original soundtrack, merchandise (toys and t-shirts) and games.

A visual feast and a sure movie treat, “Pinta*Kasi” combines elements of 2D animation and a special kind of hybrid animation with live action, making it the first mixed media film to hit the local silver screen, thus leading to the film's laborious three-year long production.

All these efforts, however, didn’t go unnoticed as, recently, the New Wave-Independent section, the newest category of the yearly Metro Manila Film Festival, recognized the film as the best in its genre, besting four other films which made the cut, adding yet another feather to the already filled cap of Governor Imee, having produced films with the likes of above stated film “Himala,” the Superstar Nora Aunor-starrer in 1982 that has been recognized by critics both here and abroad, the most recent of which is the film's inclusion in the international news channel CNN's Best Asian Films of All Time.

And, just like “Himala,” “Pinta*Kasi“surely doesn’t fall short of international recognition as it has also reached foreign shore, with the film becoming the first Filipino hip-hop movie to be invited in the Honolulu and Beijing film festivals.

Ms Imee’s endeavor to promote the arts does not stop there as she is currently working on her newest project, “The Lam-ang Experiment,” a graphic novel based on the Filipino epic “Biag ni Lam-ang.”  The graphic novel has three volumes, with the first one already out in the market and the last two still nearing completion. It currently has a motion graphic online, or, simply put, a trailer which you could check on the novel’s social networking site Facebook fan page. The team behind “The Lam-Ang Experiment” eyes its electronic release where it could be accessed through e-book.

“Pinta*Kasi” is set to touch the mainstream audience after wowing the indie crowd as it is scheduled to be shown in selected SM cinemas nationwide, with cut scenes during the film’s MMFF screening to be shown. Dates of screening are as follows: February 8 in SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Fairview, SM Marikina, SM North EDSA, SM Cebu and SM Iloilo and February 29 in SM Baguio, SM Davao and SM Batangas.

Marcos co-produces the film with Mr. Nelson Caliguia.
