GABBY Concepcion’s three daughters would soon be in showbiz. KC Concepcion (the eldest at 26, with Sharon Cuneta as mom) is already in showbiz. Garrie Concepcion (23, with Grace Ibuna as mom) has just launched her debut album. Next is Cloie, 18, his daughter with Jenny Syquia born at Makati Medical Center in August of 1994. We’re told she also wants to join local showbiz and might be managed by Viva.
Cloie is currently in town and has met her two half sisters with whom she has regular communication through Facebook. They’re going to watch the Katy Perry concert together and KC herself got the tickets for them so they can have some sisterly bonding time. Cloie is here with mom Jenny and her 6-year-old half sister whose dad is Jenny’s Swedish husband, Filip Skarne. Cloie herself is using Skarne as her family name as she’s been legally adopted by Filip.
In her FB account, Cloie said she’s excited to meet not only her sisters but also KC’s mom, Sharon Cuneta, who was very nice to her and her mom when they were still here. Nowhere does she say that she’s excited to meet her Papa Gabby. And even with KC and Garrie, there’s no mention that the three of them have made arrangements to meet their dad.
Since Gabby is himself in town doing “PS I Love You” with TV5 (that’s not rating as it should be), maybe he, on his own, should go out of his way to meet his three daughters while Cloie is still here. Gabby’s youngest daughter, Samantha, with current wife Genevieve, is still a toddler. He might even want to take Sam along to formally introduce her to her elder sisters.
MARVIN DENIES LOSING MONEY IN BUSINESS
MARVIN Agustin is one actor who should be emulated by his colleagues. He invested his earnings wisely and now owns various chains of restaurants. His Sumo Sam is all over the city and has just opened new branches in Greenhills and ABS-CBN. “Yun namang John and Yoko just opened a branch sa Alabang Center,” he says. “We’ll also open branches of our restos in Davao, Cebu and Gensan.”
But he’s not neglecting his showbiz career. He did three TV shows last year (“Beauty Queen”, “Kitchen Superstar” and “Iglot”) and three films (“The Road”, “Enteng ng Ina Mo” and “Ikaw ang Pag-ibig” where his performance as a priest battling with the big C got praised). He’s also an endorser for Knorr and Tupperware. After his contract with GMA Artist Center expired, he got former Star Recording exec Annabelle Regalado as his manager. “Now, I can work with any network who wants to get me.”
He’s now doing “Moron 5 and the Crying Lady” with Viva where he, Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford, Martin Escudero play morons, with John Lapus as the crying lady. Marvin was only 17 when ABS launched him in Star Circle Batch 2. Now, he’s turning 33 on January 29. “The Lord has been good to me sa 15 years ko in showbiz so I now share my blessings.”
Instead of having a party, he’ll take 40 orphans and kids with harelip in Operation Smile to an afternoon of fun at the Enchanted Kingdom. This is part of his program “Life-Changing Gifts” that will also include children of prisoners since his own dad was an inmate before. He also helps 15 less fortunate kids go to school. “Gusto ko silang makatapos ng pag-aaral at gaya ko, maging chef and have their own restaurant.”
To help the industry, he put up his own production outfit that produces concerts. He’ll also produce a reality cooking show for TV5. Later on, he wants to do movies. But how come one rumor says he lost money so he’s selling his house?
“Not true. My father and I went into the build and sell business and we’re now selling a house we just finished constructing in Ayala Heights.”
His twin sons are now 6 years old and are going to school. As for his lovelife, it’s zero. “I have no regular girlfriend,” he says. “Pa-date-date lang. Sobrang busy. No time.”
SARAH SAYS GERALD'S GIFT NO BIG DEAL
THE fact that Sarah Geronimo’s new musical show, “Sarah G”, will be occupying the Sunday time slot used to be given to the Megastar (who has moved to TV5) can only mean that ABS-CBN thinks she’s the new Sharon Cuneta. This will start on February 19 and her dream guests are Lea Salonga, Regine Velasquez and Nora Aunor. The last two would have to remain a dream as Regine is Kapuso while Ate Guy is Kapatid.
“Malaking preparasyon ang gagawin ko for this kasi sarili kong show kaya may pressure, daig pa 'yung nagko-concert ka sa Araneta,” she says. “This is a big blessing where I can grow as an artist and host, I also have to leave “ASAP” na Sunday rin pinalalabas to focus on this as it starts on February 19 na.”
Sarah is also happy for her Mommy Divine as her mom now owns a resto, Imo’s Pancit Palabok, on Mindanao Ave. that she personally supervises. We hope it clicks even if it has no parking area that will be a big come on for prospective patrons with cars. The name Imo comes from their surname, Geronimo.
As usual, the press once again made “kulit” to her about her lovelife, hinting Gerald Anderson is wooing her. She said they text each other and Gerald even gifted her with a Tiffany necklace for Christmas, but he’s not courting her at all and she herself has no time to fall in love again after her secret love affair with Rayver Cruz. Gerald gave gifts not only to her but also her parents and, in return, she gave him a shirt bought by her mom since she herself has no time to go shopping. “Christmas gift lang po yun, kaya 'wag ng lagyan ng malisya,” she laughs.
NIKKI SUDDENLY BECOMES MEAN
NIKKI Gil is our favorite musical theatre actress after her knockout performances in such plays as “Legally Blonde” and “Sweet Charity.” She now plays her first villain role as Empress’ evil sister in “Mundo Man ay Magunaw.” Did she have second thoughts about accepting it?
“I asked myself, kaya ko bang magkontrabida?” she says. “Siyempre, I’ve never done it before so there’s a bit of reluctance, but then, I thought, I’m an actress and it’s something new for me, so I should accept new challenges like this.”
The role of the mean girl Jennifer who makes life miserable for Empress is definitely not her. “As a girl, even my friends can attest na I was never involved in a fight. Tahimik lang ako, eh. But I realized I really want to do offbeat roles like this. Gusto ko talaga, magalit sa ’kin ang viewers dito, as that means I‘m an effective villain. I watched a lot of films na may memorable contravidas to know more about the craft. I’ve never been a bitch in my life but this time, ibang Nikki Gil ang makikita nyo.”
Did she hesitate slapping Empress in the show? “Naku, kinausap ko muna siya kasi naiilang ako. I told her I don’t know the art of slapping on cam para hindi masyadong makasakit. Eventually, sabi ko, I might learn how to control it. She said okay lang sa kanya and that’s the beauty of working with a true professional like her na willing masaktan para sa ikagaganda ng show.”
In a recent episode of “ASAP,” we heard she was also a mean girl to Melissa Ricks as she forced her to kiss Jake Cuenca with whom she had a bad breakup. “That’s true, tinukso ko siya to kiss Jake, but that’s all in the script. Birthday celebration nilang dalawa 'yun at nakasulat talaga sa idiot board to urge her to kiss Jake. But when I learned she felt bad about it and cried, I approached her and I told her na sana, she’d understand that it’s all part of the script. She said, nabigla kasi siya, dapat daw, she should have been informed first. Siguro nakalimutan ng production staff to warn her. But it’s definitely not my fault. Ayoko rin namang mapahiya ang kapwa ko artista.”
OGIE LOVES REGINE MORE DESPITE WEIGHT
OGIE Alcasid says he became a fan all over again of his Songbird wife Regine Velasquez after he heard her singing to prepare for their Valentine concert, “Mr. & Mrs. A,” at the Big Dome on February 14. “Napapanganga ako when I hear her vocalizing kasi parang mas gumanda pa ang boses niya after she became a mom,” he says. “Nagpa-practice pa lang siya nu’n, ha. What more pag actual performance na. Kahit mahihirap na songs with birit, minamani lang niya.”
Regine confessed she suffered from post-partum blues. “When Nate was born, 4.4. lbs lang siya, ang liit-liit. I really want to breastfeed him but he didn’t know how to latch on my breast so nagpabili na lang kami ng mother’s milk sa breast milk bank. I was crying as I really want him to feed on me, may breastfeeding counselors pa ako, but ayaw niya. Then one day, after two weeks, nilabas ko 'yung boobs ko, bigla na lang, dumede na siya on his own. So I said, ready na siya. At 'yun, ang bilis na ng laki niya. In two months, 9 lbs na siya.”
Ogie salutes Regine’s devotion to Nate as a mom. “Hindi siya natutulog. Kung minsan, nagigising ako sa madaling araw, karga niya si Nate at pinapadede. She talks to him constantly and tells him how much we as parents love him. Her style as a mom is really full of love.”
Regine, in turn, praises Ogie’s devotion to her. “Kahit nagmukhang elepante ako after gaining so much weight. Kung minsan, kapag nakaharap ako du’n sa salamin, I feel so insecure kasi parang ibang tao na ang nakikita ko, but he never failed to reassure me na he loves me very much.”
Ogie wants to thank their friends who agreed to be guests in the Valentine show: Dingdong Dantes, “Bubble Gang” co-stars led by Michael V, Moymoy Palaboy and Sam Pinto, Vice Ganda, Erik Santos, Kyla, Angeline Quinto.
