Aquino death threats ‘real’

FORMER Senior Superintendent Michael Ray Aquino is in danger of being killed by kidnappers he sent to the Manila City Jail once the court rules his transfer to the facility from the National Bureau of Investigation jail, a threat assessment made by the Philippine National Police Directorate for Intelligence said.

“There is an imminent and actual threat to the life and person of Senior Superintendent Michael Ray Aquino if detained at the Manila City Jail,” said the PNP-DI in a letter sent to Aquino’s lawyer Napoleon J. Poblador.

Top PNP-DI investigators went to the Manila City Jail to conduct an assessment of the jail facility and discovered that at least two kidnappers arrested by men of Aquino during his stint with the defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force are currently being held in the jail.

The two were identified as Robert Lara, one of the kidnappers of Filipino-Chinese Joseph Tomas Co in Sampaloc, Manila on August 11, 1998 who is being held at the MCJ’s Dormitory No. 14, and Reynaldo Agustin, a suspect in the kidnapping of Attorney Danilo Soriano on August 23, 1998 in Bulacan, who is being held at the MCJ’s Dormitory No. 13.

“These detainees could generate support from their fellow gang members,” said the PNP-DI threat assessment report.

The PNP-DI said the two detainees belong to the Sigue-Sigue Commando Gang whose members are all housed in Dormitories No. 13 and 1.

The assessment report said the MCJ located at the Old Bilibid Prisons Compound along Quezon Boulevard, Sta. Cruz, Manila currently houses a total of 3,803 inmates.
