Noy stands by De Lima

SO sue her.

President Benigno Aquino yesterday dared critics of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to file charges against her for her actions over the Vizconde case, saying the official  enjoys his trust and confidence.

“We have a democracy in place. We are supposed to be governed by the rules of law. If the aggrieved party feels that there is basis then they can file the appropriate charges in the appropriate forum,”Aquino said.

The President said that De Lima was just doing her job.

“What is her function? To serve the ends of justice. Let’s not forget that there’s a concept in law kasi [na] kapag wala sa teritoryo natin yung accused, hindi tumatakbo yung prescription period. There are at least two na never taken in the custody of the courts. As far as those two are concerned, if there is evidence after we capture them, they can be brought to face the bars of justice,” Aquino said.

Lauro Vizconde visited the graves of his wife and two daughters on their 20th death anniversary.

He said he has forgiven the culprits behind his family’s murders and that he holds no grudge against the family of Hubert Webb.

The Webb family threatened to file a disbarment case against De Lima for subversion of the law after the National Bureau of Investigation said it has six new witnesses who said Hubert was in the country when the killings occurred.

De Lima, who is in Germany, said she is ready to face “any contempt or disbarment case that will be brought against me arising from the reinvestigation of the Vizconde massacre.”
