BAYAN Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño, an administration ally, is disappointed by the many failures of President Benigno Aquino during his one year in office.
Casiño particularly cited non-passage of the Freedom of Information Bill, which could be a key legislation to address corruption. He said the Palace reversal on the FoI bill is a major betrayal of “Matuwid na Daan.”
“One of the first things to fall by the wayside of the President’s ‘tuwid na daan’ was the FOI bill. In fact, it was the President’s men who put up the roadblocks for its immediate passage, in cooperation with the loyalists of the previous administration,” he said.
“A government that prevents its passage is a government that does not want transparency and accountability. Just like the previous administration, the Aquino government does not want a genuine FOI bill. It wants a watered down version that will allow public officials to hide crucial information from the public,” he said.
Even the Kabataan party-list expressed dismay with Aquino for failing to fulfill his promise of change in his first year in office.
“One year into President Aquino’s term, it becomes clear to the youth and people that he is no different from his predecessor Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Where is the change he promised? His deceitful tack to cover up his inutility makes him a rightful bearer of the tag the deception. He tried but failed to deceive us with all his empty talk on change,” Kabataan Party-list Rep. Raymond Palatino said.
