WHOEVER wrote the President’s speech when he went to Malay, Aklan recently, should be given a really good spanking. Imagine putting the country’s top leader in such an embarrassing situation, on his first ever visit to the world-famous tourist attraction Boracay Island resort.
It was reported that Boracay residents were slighted when President Noy-Noy referred to their place as “BORA” instead of Boracay during a speech he delivered at the inaugural ceremony of the newly-renovated Caticlan airport.
All throughout the speech, the President was said to have mentioned the term ‘BORA’ not once, not twice, but thrice!
The boo-boo comes at a time when some residents from the area had reportedly launched a campaign to promote awareness that their island must be rightfully referred to as ‘Boracay’ and not simply ‘Bora’ so as not to confuse it with another island tourist destination called ‘Bora-Bora’, which is in the French Polynesia chain in the Pacific Ocean. It took quite some time before Boracay reached its present status and calling the place by another name negates all the effort put in by several sectors to make Boracay famous.
Worse, it made a mockery of the council in that area which reportedly passed a resolution a couple of months back, mandating that the municipal licensing office must deny applications for business permits if they use the name ‘Bora’. This goes to show the intensity with which the residents there want their place to be referred to as “Boracay.” It’s like other countries referring to the Philippines as ‘Pinas.’
By the way, that resolution was reportedly passed last ‘Feb.’ Maybe the one who wrote that speech did not even research because he or she is busy making tusok the fishballs...Shucks naman you people... so galeng!!! I’m so bilib..Pnoy should give you a batok or make kurot your singit...
