A police major was seriously wounded after being struck in the head with a hard object by a suspected thief who victimized his wife in Baguio City Sunday.
Chief Insp. Enrique Ennanguen, assigned with the Cordillera Police Regional Logistics Division, was taken to the Saint Louis University Hospital.
Cordillera police director Chief Supt. Villamor Bumanglag has ordered a massive hunt for the suspect who fled on foot after the attack at the Country Club jitney terminal on Otek Street past 4 p.m. Sunday.
Ennanguen and his wife were walking near the entrance of the Sunshine Supermarket on Abanao St. when the suspect secretly stole Mrs. Ennanguen’s cellphone from the pocket of her jacket.
The policeman saw the incident and nabbed the suspect. Witnesses said the suspect tried to resist, prompting the cop to punch him in the mouth.
The suspect continued to struggle until he was able to free himself and disappeared along the nearby Igorot Garden.
As the couple walked away, the suspect tailed them. When he got the chance, the suspect struck the cop’s head with a hard object, causing him to stumble on the pavement with his ear bleeding. He was taken to the hospital by his wife.
