Give passing grades to students ravaged by Pedring, Quiel

STUDENTS in private and public schools affected by twin Typhoon Pedring and Quiel that hit the country recently and submerged most part of Central Luzon in floodwaters should be given passing grades.

Eleazardo Kasilag, president of the 9, 995-member Federation of Associations of Private Schools and Administrators (FAPSA), made the proposal and said students in this calamity-stricken areas should be spared the rigors of this grading period. He admitted that this may not sit well with the Department of Education (DepEd) and other private schools.

“DepEd and others might criticize that this proposal means that grades are made like doleouts but you have to understand that what these kids went through was something more than what the school can offer. These schoolchildren needed consolation,” Kasilag said.

“In fact some of them lost their houses and studies are not much a priority so, like what happened to us, crying time would be long and Christmas shall be lonely for sure,” he added.
