CLARK Freeport Zone, Pampanga -- From $1.3 billion in 2010, the export industry here posted $3.9 billion this year or a 161-percent increase, remarkably breaking the historical record of the said business in the area.
Clark Development Corporation (CDC) president Felipe Antonio B. Remollo said the electronics industry is a huge contributor of exports along with tires, garments, aviation related and other manufacturing sectors based in the said place.
According to Remollo, the electronic sector that has $3.1 billion input in export, is also the number one employment-generating industry in the place which has a growth rate of 6 percent from last year’s record.
Among the top exporters in the area are Texas Instruments, Nanox Philippines Incorporated, Phoenex Semiconductor, Phil. Corporation, Yokohama Tire Phils. L& T International Group and SMK Electronics.
Remollo stressed that despite an apparent decline in Philippine exports due to a worldwide economic slump last year, Clark-based enterprises remain stable that made CDC hit its target on export as well as in investment and employment.
“With these developments in the exports sector, the present trends show that our targets are attainable much earlier than planned,” he said.
Remollo added that the strategic location of this world-class freeport has a given advantage for today’s global businessmen because it is situated near key cities, financial districts and major trading ports in the region.
Clark is only 80 kilometers or an hour away from Metro Manila using North Luzon Expressway NLEX) and 60 kilometers or 30- minute travel from Subic Bay Freeport via Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). It is easily reached by neighboring countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and other major Asian destination, by plane.
