RYZA Cenon has long been waiting in the wings for stardom ever since she won in StarStruck 2 as the female Ultimate Survivor. Now, she finally achieves it in "Ika-6 na Utos" where she plays the ultimate other woman, Georgia. The series has become such a big hit that it now airs six times a week, up to Saturday, instead of the usual Monday to Friday.
"Ika-6 na Utos" easily eclipsed the ratings of the musical variety shows in the noontime slot, which is quite a mean feat, so it's not surprising that GMA7 has decided to extend it until the weekend. It quickly gave an exit to Dingdong Dantes' "Case Solved", a docu crime drama that didn't take off since it seems out of place on lazy Saturday afternoons.
"I never expected that 'Ika-6 na Utos' would be this successful," says Ryza. "Kahit saan ako magpunta ngayon, people know me now as Georgia. Kung may nagagalit man sa akin, hindi sa akin mismo kundi doon sa character that I play. Lalo nga lang dumami ang trabaho namin ng co-stars ko dahil halos araw-araw na kami nagte-taping. Pero okay lang, no complaints. Sabi nga, make hay while the sun shines."
Her co-stars, Gabby Concepcion as Rome and Sunshine Dizon as Emma, both praise her for her effective portrayal of Georgia. What can she say about this? "Thanks, but we owe the success of the show hindi lang sa iisang tao kundi pati sa kanila, sa aming lahat. Pati sa writers, sa director naming si Tita Laurice Guillen, sa staff and crew. It's a collaboration naming lahat. Thanks din kay Lord for His blessings at sa lahat ng viewers na sumusubaybay sa journey nina Emma, Rome and Georgia in 'Ika-6 na Utos'. We promise to continue giving our best in every episode."
Right now, viewers are torn on whether Rome and Emma will still reconcile or not. "May mga gustong magkabalikan sila para maging buo uli ang kanilang pamilya, pero meron ding ayaw at maging friends na lang daw sila. Maski kami mismo, we don't know yet what will happen, so abangan na lang nila. Ang importante, may aral na matututuhan ang viewers tungkol sa relationship namin dito, lalo na ang mga mag-asawa."
WHERE TO, ALJUR?
TOO bad for Aljur Abrenica that no one seems to side with him after GMA7 decided not to renew his contract with them anymore. Most people say "Good riddance" to him. We cannot blame GMA management if they decided not to take the option to renew their contract with him.
In their official statement regarding this matter, they made it clear that they supported Aljur all the way ever since he won as one of the Ultimate Survivors of Starstruck 4 (the other one was Martin Escudero who also chose to left GMA and whose career is now neither here nor there.) They said: “GMA Artist Center has not been remiss in its duties as his manager, practising a consultative style of management with Aljur. With his best interest in mind, this practice has accorded him every opportunity to personally assess all offers to reach a mutual agreement. GMA Network has equally given him projects, some of which were lead roles in the Network’s primetime programs."
Aljur even chose to sue the network at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court like a rebellious prodigal son so he can be released by them. Still, the network continued to give him projects after that, like good roles in "The Half Sisters", "Dangwa" and "Once Again". But it is the people who have lost their interest in Aljur for being such an ingrate. His career really took a nosedive after his personal shenanigans against the Kapuso network. Now, will ABS-CBN pick him up like what he has been dreaming of since then?
Let's see. Maybe a really resourceful manager will also be interested him and succeed in giving his currently dormant career the boost it badly needs. But whatever setbacks he is experiencing now, he brought it all upon himself.
Too bad that this came at a time when broadcaster Kaye Dacer revealed that he still owes her more than P1 million as balance for the payment on the house he bought from her. At this point, people are actually more worried about Kylie Padilla, who's currently 5 months pregnant with Aljur's child and is also jobless like Aljur. What will happen to her and their innocent child?
Aljur celebrated his 27th birthday on March 27. With him jobless and with his last movie on which he's banking on so much, "Hermano Puli", being a certified flop, it must've been Aljur's saddest birthday. He should really do a lot of soul searching to determine where he did wrong in running his own career.
