PATRICIA Javier joined showbiz in 1997 as one of the newbies in “That’s Entertainment”, with Isko Moreno, Ara Mina and Maricar de Mesa as her batchmates. She then did TV commercials and joined the Bb. Pilipinas pageant using her real name, Genesis Canlapan, where Jessica Rodriguez saw her and took her to Viva where she was renamed Patricia Javier.

She was launched in 1999 in the Peque Gallaga movie, “Ang Kabit ni Mrs. Montero”, and did other films, but in 2004, she met chiropractor Dr. Robert Walcher and they got married in 2005. She gave up her showbiz career and settled in San Diego, California where they had two sons, Robert IV, now 11 years old, and Ryan James or RJ, 7 years old, who are both good looking enough to also be in showbiz.

Four years ago, they moved to Manila. “Someone bought our business and our house in San Diego and suddenly, we felt so free we want to make a fresh new start so I told Rob to let’s try it in the Philippines,” says Patricia.

“I agreed on condition that we’d return to the U.S. if nothing happened in six months,” says Rob. “But now, we’re doing so well. My wife is back into acting, doing movies and TV shows. I never expected to practice here but people keep on coming to me when they learned I’m a chiropractor so I have to put up a wellness clinic. We now have two, one in Makati near Dusit Hotel and one in Quezon City at Morato Ave. near Il Terazzo. I have another American doctor to help me out. We also put up our own business with our own chiropractic pillows that support your neck and back at the right places, available online at doc rob pillow and it’s doing very well. I now love it here. I’ve learned to love the culture and the fact that it’s so easy to travel to other countries from here.”

Rob also does acting on the side. He has appeared in “Everything About Her” with Vilma Santos and “First Love” as Aga Muhlach’s doctor. On TV, he played Andre Paras’ dad in “That’s My Amboy”. They’ll celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary next month. What are each other’s most endearing qualities that help keep their marriage working?

“Rob is so generous,” says Patricia. “He’s so maawain. Kahit langgam, hindi niya mapatay. We’ve never have big conflicts and between the two of us, he’s the one who’s more emotional. And he’s so health conscious he always reminds me to exercise and be careful with my diet.”

“What I love in her is her inner beauty,” says Rob. “She’s really beautiful inside and out. She’s not judgmental and always wants to help other people. We’re also both easy going and that helps a lot.”

Don’t they plan to have another baby? “Nakakatawa kasi we just had a vacation in Singapore and it’s our bunso who said, maybe we should have a new baby. Puwede naman, kaya lang I’m the 2019 Mrs. Universe Philippines Finest Woman who’ll represent our country next year in Europe where 98 countries will compete. Alangan namang magpunta ako roon nang buntis ako. Sa bagay, puwede rin, kasi mga misis na naman lahat ng kasali.”

Patricia is celebrating her anniversary in showbiz with “Two Decades of Patricia Javier, A Concert for a Cause”, to be held at Music Museum on November 16, Friday.
