Immigration’s POD post not for sale!

THIS corner would like to call the attention of Department of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra and Bureau of Immigration (BI) Chief Jaime Morente.

The Immigration Port Operations Division (POD) Chief Marc Red A. Mariñas is expected to file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for mayor of Muntinlupa City on or before October 17, 2018.

As a result, he will be deemed resigned from the BI and his current position will likewise be vacant.

As of today, many are aspiring to be the POD chief as it is known to be a powerful and prestigious position.

The POD chief, as head of all international terminals in the Philippines, has supervision and control over all immigration officers assigned at the airports whose primary functions include the detection and prevention of human trafficking activities, and the entry and stay of suspected terrorists, drug lords, fugitives, among others.

This particular position must, therefore, be given to a person of known integrity and competence as it involves national security, public welfare and of course public safety.

However, it was reported that those vying for the position are not only recommended by politicians but also are reportedly making their bids to be designated as POD chief.

One candidate was even reported to have offered to give P50 million per month. I will withhold first her identity but her name is tainted with regards to the corruption in the bureau.

At least given ang binigay kong detalye, isa siyang babae pero ang kanyang first name ay madalas gamiting pangalan ng LGBT community.

Some immigration personality naman made pledges to contribute to the campaign fund of certain government candidates for the coming 2018 elections.
