SENATE Majority Leader Tito Sotto has called on President Duterte to set up a new office which is tasked to ensure the success of the government’s total war against illegal drugs.
Sotto, a former chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), issued the call after noting the increasing number of illegal drug cases being dismissed by judges across the country.
“Despite the strong cases filed, cases are eventually dismissed due to lack of coordination between the law enforcers and prosecutors especially in the case build-up stage,” said Sotto.
The proposed Presidential Office on Drugs and Crimes (PODC) shall be under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive to make the war on drugs lethal for drug syndicate members.
The PDOC, which will have Deputy Commissioners for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, will be headed by the Solicitor General.
Sotto’s Senate Resolution No. 702 calls for the creation of the proposed office, which is expected to address the problems confronting the country’s prosecutors handling drug cases.
Likewise, the said office will formulate programs and protocols to strengthen the prosecution of drug cases and assist law enforcers.
Under the proposal, state prosecutors will be assigned to the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
The prosecutors will advise, supervise and monitor anti-drug and anti-crime operations.
The Filipino people should be shown that something solid is being done by the authorities to bolster the nationwide campaign against the dreaded drug monster and other crimes.
It’s not enough that we arrest and charge in courts suspected drug manufacturers, pushers and users.
Dapat sila’y maparusahan at mabulok sa bilangguan para hindi sila pamarisan ng iba.
